Leaping Over Walls

stone wall
What wall are you facing today?

For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness. For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. Psalm 18:28-29

I have found comfort in this promise in some of the hardest places on earth. Facing life’s challenges can seem like looking up at an immovable wall.

Islam is certainly a wall, as anyone who has lived and worked as a follower of Jesus in its midst well knows. Sitting face to face with a witch-doctor on the hard dirt of an African village while the people watch to see whose God is stronger surely seems like facing a wall.

But by my God I can leap over a wall.

Barrenness is a wall. One cannot simply will herself to conceive.

But by my God I can leap over a wall.

Rebellion in the heart of a prodigal is a wall. Mothers and fathers stand wailing along its perimeter, waiting and beseeching the Lord to bring their child home.

But by my God I can leap over a wall.

The grief that rises after the death of a loved one is a wall. Those in its shadow wonder if they will ever see the sun again.

But with my God I can leap over a wall.

The bank account that is empty, the cupboards that are empty, the job that is lost, are all walls. Some lose the job they have devoted years to, others in the body of Christ around the world are not allowed to work at all simply because they are Christians.

But by my God I can leap over a wall.

Depression is a towering wall, severe in its sharp, unyielding ramparts. Depression makes it hard to get out of bed, nevertheless leap.

But by my God I can leap over a wall.

What about when the wall is our own attitude, our stubbornness? Maybe just weariness of living in the shadow of the wall, always pushing against it and never feeling it budge? I solemnly declare to you that the promise still stands.

By my God I can leap over a wall.

Psalm 18 reminds us that God is the source of our lives. It is He who gives light to our darkness.

It is God who gives us the power to leap over the walls we face. #challenges #faith Click To Tweet

Our little lights and small strength are specks next to His might.

What is your wall today? Lean in to His strength. Take my hand, look up, and let’s leap together.

Lord, I believe that by Your mighty power I can leap over the wall facing me right now. Help me get to the other side as I trust You. Amen.

“But by my God…” What a wonderful thought to carry with us. Thank you for sharing this inspiring post Ms. Audrey. Knowing that God is the creator of all, and knowing He is faithful in His promises; we have the courage to face the various seasons of our human lives. Until the day my young friend… God’s blessings.
