The Days of the Battle Are Numbered

Chess pieces scattered with a queen standing in triumph... checkmate.

For forty days the Philistine came forward and took his stand, morning and evening (1 Samuel 17:16).

Dear One,

The battle seems relentless. The attacks are cruel and unfair. You don’t want to ask, but you must ask, Why does God let it go on? Where is the victory?

I see your shoulders drooped low with weariness. You have fought long.

And those hands. Strong hands, loving hands, serving hands. Hands that washed feet, hands that helped young men stand taller, hands that held the hands of widows and orphans, offering help and comfort.

Hands that have delivered babies in the middle of the bush country where there was no doctor. Hands that have scooped up sand from a riverbed and loaded it into buckets carried on your head up steep African ravines to build a church. Hands that have carried Bibles into lands where the Word of God is forbidden.

Hands that have wiped tears from faces of broken people and repaired broken things.

You have always worked at what your hands found to do with all your might.

Those beautiful, strong hands hang limp right now. The constant bending of the bow and the pulling of the string in recent days have taken your strength.

It is my honor to remind you what you have done for our Master with those hands. He has not forgotten you.

I know you are in the struggle of your life and you aren’t sure your heart can bear much more. Your eyes scan the heavens, waiting for help to come.

I am writing today to tell you that the days of the battle are numbered. They have an end. #spiritual warfare #victory Click To Tweet

Though the towering giant may greet you every morning, casting his intimidating shadow over you at the start of each day, his demise is sure. Though he returns every evening, taunting you and threatening your destruction, his days are numbered.

Your triumph over this enemy may not come in the way you expect. But I promise you, the giant will fall.

“Fear not, for from the first day you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.”

Daniel 10:11

You have set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before God for many long months now. Your words have been heard, beloved.

You are dearly loved. Can you feel the touch of your Captain on your shoulder?

The battle is the Lord’s, and He is fighting for you. Even now His warring angels battle for you. As you wait, He fights. As you wait, your victory is being secured.

Hold on a little longer.

Lord, I am blind and weak from battle. Come, Lord Jesus, and bring the giant down. Amen.

Audrey, I’ve been encouraged by all of your writing, but surely this today would be an example of “ the pen is mightier than the sword “ in spiritual warfare. You have encouraged us to be strong amidst your own battle. Powerful and anointed. I thought of this verse as I read.

    Nehemiah 6:9

9 For all of them were trying to frighten us, [thinking, “[They will become discouraged with the work and it will not be done.” But now, O God, strengthen my hands.

Come Lord… use me as you need, but when you’ve used me up. When I have poured out my last drop of Your living water in this life; bring me home and fill me forever with Your presence Lord.
