Look as Far as You Can See

a telescope with the words look as far as you can see

Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west. I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted! Go and walk through the land in every direction, for I am giving it to you.

Genesis 13:14-17

Visionaries are impossible thinkers. They see and imagine things outside the bounds of circumstances, resources, and time. Visionaries get a God-glimpse of what’s possible beyond limits. Visionaries have the gift of seeing.

Blessing, generation-changing, history-making visions originate with God. Abram was the first visionary. His vision began with God’s invitation.

Look.

Look as far as you can see in every direction.

Abram accepted God’s invitation and looked.

With God, we all can become visionaries.

The first step is simple. Look.

Next comes the exciting part. God told Abram His part, the impossible part, the bigger-than-me-and-my-limitations part.

I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted!

Invitation.

Look.

Promise.

I am.

I will.

Action.

Go.

Visionaries are necessary people. Visionaries help people see.

But visionaries can be scary. Their big ideas can send us into a tailspin, destabilizing our carefully-crafted security, stability built with the tools we can see, tools like the bottom line in our bank account, time, prior obligations, skills, and resources we lack.

When God initiates the vision, however, the visionary becomes His instrument. Like a telescope, the visionary enables people to see the distant horizon of God’s promises. The silhouette of God’s promises exists right there, beyond the scope of the naked eye. We need help to see the mountain range of His purposes.

When God invites us to look, we can be sure God’s promise will follow. His promises may seem impossible, but with I Am and I Will, everything is possible.

So what are you waiting for?

Look as far as you can see, trust God's promises, and go. #vision #future Click To Tweet

Lord, as I look out as far as I can see, speak Your promises over this new year. Over the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
