In the Dark

For a dear friend who was just gut-punched with a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis, and anyone else who is in the dark today.

a hand reaching upwards in the dark, with the words "In the Dark" stating the title of the post.

I don’t know where You are, Lord,

It’s so dark in here.

Where are you? I am reaching for You.

I know You are here, Lord,

In the darkness.

Where are You? I am looking for You.

I don’t know where You are Lord,

I am so very tired.

Where are You? I am waiting for You.

I know You are here, Lord.

The darkness is

As light to You. I surrender to You.

You are here, Lord

With me

Present in the dark.

…even there your hand would guide me,
your right hand would grab hold of me.
If I were to say, “Certainly the darkness will cover me,
and the light will turn to night all around me,”
even the darkness is not too dark for you to see,
and the night is as bright as day;
darkness and light are the same to you.

Psalm 139: 10-12

What if God's silence in the dark is not absence, but #presence? Share on X

There are soul-crushing times in life when to speak, to move, would be profane. God’s all-powerful silent presence is an anchoring comfort in the darkest night. If you are in the dark today, I pray you will be aware that He is there, with you. And He sees in the darkness.
