Thoughts from the Mountain: Walking Together is Learning

a Rocky Mountain path and the words "walking together is learning" describing the subject of the post.

Jesus himself approached and began to accompany them (but their eyes were kept from recognizing him). Then he said to them, “What are these matters you are discussing so intently as you walk along?”

They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us while he was speaking with us on the road, while he was explaining the scriptures to us?”

Luke 24:15, 32

Sweat trickled down my back like a pesky fly caught in the fabric. My muscles strained as I climbed head over foot up the steep, rocky path. To my left was air, against a distant backdrop of majesty. Ahead was the towering rock face locals call “The Finger of God,” its promontory pointing solidly to heaven.

As my breathing grew laborious in direct proportion to the incline, I talked with Jesus, my steadfast Companion.

What lesson is to be learned here, Lord?

Why does there need to be a lesson? Let’s just walk together.

But You say to come, take Your yoke, and learn of You.

Walking together is learning.

Well, then.

Lord, here I am, together with You, learning as we walk together today. Amen.
