Honor and Shame

Objectives: Students will gain a basic understanding of the honor-shame worldview while also learning that shame is a universal human experience addressed by the Gospel. Audrey will teach keys to reading Scripture through the Honor Shame lens as a means to share the Gospel within that worldview.

Islamic Research Lectures Brainstorming Session: Muslim Women, Honor, and Shame

Muslim women are the honor burden bearers of Islam. In this lecture, Audrey will explain the original honor intended by God and secured through the Messiah Jesus for every person, including women. She will then examine the counterfeit honor that has emerged within the honor-shame worldview and its often tragic impact on Muslim women. Attendees will leave with an increased understanding of the honor-shame worldview as well as tools to share the gospel more effectively with Muslims through the honor-shame paradigm.

When we honor one another as fellow humans created with equal value by God, we see each other more clearly and compassionately. As she discusses the principles of honor from her book Covered Glory: The Face of Honor and Shame in the Muslim World, Audrey will explain the honor-shame worldview and how understanding it will make us more effective ministers of social justice in our communities.

This event will be held outside, socially distanced, with health and safety precautions in place. Sharing true stories of youth who have bravely overcome shame after meeting Christ, Audrey will talk to the youth Sunday School Class about shame, truth, and the honor Jesus offers every teen. At the morning service, Audrey will share about the God of Instead, who removes shame in every culture. In the afternoon Audrey will discuss her book Covered Glory: The Face of Honor and Shame in the Muslim World with book club members.

Audrey helps listeners understand the difference as she discusses how the teaching in Muslim orthodoxy filters down to women in everyday life, particularly through the lenses of the honor-shame worldview. Sharing true stories of Muslim women around the world, Audrey explains how the Messiah delivers women from shame and gives honor instead.
