Don’t Make Me Tug You

“I hear the Lord saying, “I will stay close to you, instructing and guiding you along the pathway for your life. I will advise you along the way and lead you forth with my eyes as your guide. So don’t make it difficult; don’t be stubborn when I take you where you’ve not been before. Don’t make me tug you and pull you along. Just come with me!””
Psalms 32:8-9 TPT
As we face a new journey, You say::
Stay close to me
I will instruct you
I will guide you
I will advise you along the way
I will lead you with My eyes (oh, thank You!)
I will take you where you have not been before
Don’t be stubborn, afraid, resistant; just come on!
I feel like our cocker spaniel, who hides in his safe space, under our bed, on his cushy little pillow, when it’s time to go.
I can bribe him with treats, but that doesn’t always work.
The only thing that works dependably is to pretend I’m leaving him behind with the sound of the door shutting. When he hears that click, he jumps up and runs to the door, pressing his wet nose against it. His true feelings are revealed: He does not want to be left behind by his master.
I don’t either, Lord. But I am here, hiding under the bed in my safe place, my comfortable space, with my toys. Nothing can get to me here, and I feel secure.
Coming out makes me feel insecure. I don’t know where You might take me! You said it yourself, You are taking me places I haven’t been before.
Please increase my courage, Lord, and my trust. And my joy in doing so. I don’t want to be tugged and pulled along… I want to come willingly with You. I’m just so afraid.
Help me, Lord. Today, my intention is that when fear tries to hold me back, I respond by joining You in the journey. With You, I know I can do this. Amen.
