East and West

You answer our prayers by performing awesome acts of deliverance,
O God, our savior.
All the ends of the earth trust in you,
as well as those living across the wide seas.
You created the mountains by your power,
and demonstrated your strength.
You calmed the raging seas
and their roaring waves,
as well as the commotion made by the nations.
Even those living in the remotest areas are awestruck by your acts;
you cause those living in the east and west to praise you.
Psalm 65:5-8
I am flying over Saudi Arabia as I write this. How fascinating it is to sit with God high above the earth’s surface, turn my attention toward Him as I soar through the air, and read the words of Psalm 65 about our great God who causes those who live in the east and the west to praise Him.
He is so much more than we understand.
His presence is an anchor even from the skies far above the earth. Why is there a commotion in my soul? Why do seas of emotions rage in me, thoughts roar like waves? Must I let them toss me about?
Let me come to quiet, even here, above the earth, over a kingdom of people who are, one by one, putting their trust in God our Savior. He is greater than the commotion of the nations, and He is here.
His presence is the place we need to practice. Those living in the remotest areas are struck by His acts; He causes those living in the east and the west to praise Him.
Selah.
Lord, I am practicing your presence, even here. Let the people of east and west know Your great acts and may we all put our trust in You. For surely You are not far from us. Amen.
